little info

Come February 12th, I will be living and breathing the AmeriCorps NCCC lifestyle.

Why I applied:
-because for the last four and a half years I have pursued my own undergraduate education from California State University, Long Beach and, come graduation, felt a longing to do something outside of myself that would benefit other people
-I felt that the mission of AmeriCorps, which is to encourage leadership and strengthen communities, was something I felt particularly drawn to
-I was in the midst of applying to graduate social work programs and decided to explore social service opportunities before furthering my education
-I figured I might as well take a chance, apply, and see what comes from it

I applied and let the wonderful people of AmeriCorps decide my future for me (since I clearly am not the most decisive person in the world).

I will be living with a team of people for the next nine months and will potentially be traveling across several states, including Alaska, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, and Pacific Territories. We will be assisting with disaster preparedness, response, and recovery activities, providing support in areas ranging from working directly with disaster survivors to supporting disaster recovering centers to sharing valuable disaster preparedness and mitigation information with the public.

The extent of my knowledge about specific tasks I will be undertaking over the next nine months is limited as of now but do not fret, you will be updated as soon as possible.
